Start with the basics 

# What does “peptide” mean? 

The word is a starting point. The exact medicine and the reason for using it matter more. 

Term in plain words 

## Peptide 

A peptide is a substance whose small pieces link together, much as beads form a strand; insulin is an example. The word alone does not tell you what a shot treats.

## Check these points 

- **Get the full name**
  Ask for the medicine’s full name, rather than a phrase such as “recovery blend”. 

  Write down what the person offering it says it is meant to treat.

- **Find out what kind of product it is**
  As of September 26, 2026, the word peptide does not tell you a product’s legal status. 

  Ask which description fits: an approved medicine, a pharmacy preparation made to order, or a substance sold for laboratory research.

- **Keep the treatment question separate**
  Ask whether studies show that this medicine helps the problem you want treated. Ask what the studies found and what remains uncertain. 

  Ask what happens if the person caring for you recommends a different plan.

## Notes that explain the checks 

### A familiar example 

FDA is the shortened name for the federal drug agency, Food and Drug Administration. 

Semaglutide is the medicine ingredient in Ozempic and Wegovy. As of September 26, 2026, approved Ozempic products include treatment for type 2 diabetes, and approved Wegovy products include weight management. 

FDA approval means the agency reviewed a particular medicine and accepted it for a named use. It does not cover every medicine with the same ingredient. 

### A name is not a care plan 

A list of ingredients leaves questions unanswered. Who will assess you? Why this treatment? Who will answer later? 

Take those questions into the visit. A clear answer can use ordinary words.
