Check a licence

How can I check the care behind an offer?

Ask for names before you compare logos. Check the person caring for you and the supplying pharmacy separately.

Term in plain words

Licence

A licence is the state’s permission for a person or business to carry out a regulated role.

Check these points

  • Get the person’s full name and profession

FindMyDoctor is Massachusetts’ free website for checking a doctor’s record. As of September 30, 2026, it can show reported penalties for misconduct and payments for claims about harm from medical care.

Use the name from the visit paperwork. Ask whether the person is a doctor, nurse or physician assistant, then use that profession’s state search.

If you see a payment for a claim about harm, ask what happened and how the claim was resolved. The entry alone may leave questions unanswered.

  • Use the matching board record

The Massachusetts health-licence search covers nurses, pharmacies and pharmacists, as of September 30, 2026.

For a physician assistant, start with the state’s physician-assistant board.

  • Check the pharmacy’s exact permission

A pharmacy shipping compounded injections from another state needs the extra Massachusetts sterile-compounding permission, as of September 30, 2026.

Sterile means free of living germs.

Ask for the licence category shown in the record.

Notes that explain the checks

A clean record has limits

A blank space under penalties or payments in a Massachusetts doctor’s record does not prove there were none. The page shows information reported to the state medical board.

Keep the name, role and record together in your notes. A record check is a starting point for questions about care.

“FDA registered” does not mean approved

The US agency responsible for medicine review is called the FDA, or Food and Drug Administration.

“FDA registered” means the business is listed with the FDA. As of September 26, 2026, that listing does not show FDA approval of either the business or its medicines.

If an offer displays an “FDA registered” symbol or certificate, ask to see the business’s state licence. For an approved medicine, also ask for the FDA page confirming approval of that exact product.
